About the Company
The Tata Medical Center (TMC) is a multispecialty institution for tertiary cancer care located in New Town, Kolkata. Tata Translational Cancer Research Centre (TTCRC), the research arm of TMC, is within a dedicated academic building on the same campus.
At TTCRC, a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, scientists, and industry professionals collaborates to develop a systems medicine approach in cancer research. This approach is focused on developing innovative, indigenous, cost-effective, and equitable strategies to improve cancer diagnosis, develop treatments that match disease characteristics and are adapted to treatment response, and identify prognostic and predictive disease biomarkers.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing, establishing, and maintaining tumour organoid cultures from patient tissue samples
- Clinical sample processing and organoid culture work
- High-throughput confocal microscopic imaging
- Extraction of biomolecules (DNA, RNA, Protein) and quality checks
- Sample preparation for histological analysis, NGS, and protein mass spectrometry
- Drug response testing and cell biology assays
- Planning and performing hands-on experiments
- Recording and analysing research data
- Presenting data and papers in group meetings and national conferences
- Preparing scientific reports and manuscripts
Qualifications
- M Pharmacy in Pharmacology
Relevant Experience
- Minimum 1 year
Essential Experience
- Extensive experience in mammalian cell culture techniques
- Familiarity with DNA, RNA, and protein extraction techniques, quality check, qRTPCR and Western Blot
- Familiarity with good laboratory practices
Preferable but Not Essential
- Experience with patient samples handling
- Experience with 3D (spheroid/organoid/organ-on-chip) cell culture models
- Experience in high-throughput drug screening assays
- Experience in automated high-throughput confocal imaging
- Experience in hydrogel bioprinting
- Experience in automated liquid handler/digital dispenser use
- Knowledge of LIMS (e.g., LabVantage) use for biobanking clinical samples
- Knowledge of advanced MS Excel, R programming, and image analysis software

Salary / Retainership
- Research Assistant level I/II: INR 25,000 – 28,000 per month, consolidated.
Appointment Nature and Tenure
The position is a sanctioned regular position of the institute, funded by an intramural core grant to TTCRC by TMC Careers. However, appointment of the successful candidate to the position will initially be for 1 year. Further renewal of the contract is subject to satisfactory performance assessed through periodic appraisals.
