About the Scheme

The scheme aims to strengthen India’s research value chain across 13 priority sectors by promoting high-impact research, innovation, and mentorship.

Categories of Engagement
- Young Research Fellows: Early-career researchers with up to 5 years of post-PhD experience outside of India.
- Senior Fellows: Mid-career researchers with 5 to less than 10 years of post-PhD experience outside of India.
- Research Chairs: Eminent researchers with 10 years or more of post-PhD experience outside of India.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct original, high-impact research in identified priority sectors.
- Teach and co-design courses to enhance curriculum.
- Mentor doctoral, postdoctoral, and postgraduate students.
- Facilitate international collaborations and publications.
- Engage with industry partners to promote applied research.
- Ensure research ideas translate into commercial products.
- Submit periodic progress reports as required.
- Participate in evaluations as stipulated by the Empowered Committee.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible Host Institutions include government HEIs ranked among the top 100 in NIRF Overall and Engineering categories, and top 50 in the NIRF Research category.
- Host Institutions must demonstrate a strong research and development environment.
- Fellows must be of Indian origin and have a distinguished track record in research.
- Fellows must commit to the prescribed engagement period and responsibilities.

- For Host Institutions: Institutions must submit project proposals through the official PMRC portal, including details of their research strengths and proposed thematic areas.
- For Fellows: Candidates must apply through the official PMRC portal, providing their curriculum vitae, proof of citizenship, and details of their research outputs.
