The Junior Scientific Officer will be responsible for conducting crime case examinations, providing expert evidence in courts of law, and examining crime scenes. The officer will also guide junior scientific staff in case analysis, engage in research and development activities related to forensic science, and provide training to trainees from various investigating agencies and forensic science laboratories. This role is crucial in supporting the forensic science community and ensuring justice is served.

Registration & Application Process
- Four-Step Process: The portal requires Account Creation, generating a Universal Registration Number (URN), filling the Common Application Form (CAF), and completing the post-specific module.
- Application Number: Upon applying for a specific post, a dynamic Application Number is generated. Keep this and your permanent URN safe for all future communications.
- One-Time Edit Facility: You can update your URN profile once, but changes will only apply to applications submitted after the update.
- Identity Verification: Applicants are strongly advised to use their
[Aadhaar Redacted]Card for seamless identity verification, though Voter IDs, PAN cards, Passports, and Driving Licenses are also accepted. - No Withdrawals or Edits: Once finally submitted, applications cannot be withdrawn, corrected, or altered.
- Print for Records: Keep a printed copy of the final application. Do not mail hard copies to the UPSC unless specifically asked later.
Document Uploads & Verification
- Photographs: You must upload a standard photograph and complete a live photo capture during the CAF stage.
- Signatures: Sign three times (one below the other) on plain white paper in black ink and upload the clear image.
- Supporting Documents (PDF Only): Upload proof of Date of Birth (10th standard certificate), Educational Degrees/Diplomas, and Experience Certificates (strictly in the prescribed proforma).
- Category Certificates: SC, ST, OBC, and PwBD candidates must upload valid certificates in the prescribed format. OBC candidates must also submit a non-creamy layer declaration.
- Translations: Any document not in English or Hindi must be accompanied by a transcript attested by a Gazetted Officer or Notary.
Eligibility & Shortlisting Criteria
- Citizenship: Open to Indian citizens, subjects of Nepal/Bhutan, and specific refugees/migrants with a valid Government of India eligibility certificate.
- Shortlisting: Fulfilling minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview. If application volumes are high, UPSC may shortlist based on desirable qualifications, higher education, extended experience, or a Recruitment Test (RT).
- Minimum Interview Marks: Unreserved (50), OBC (45), and SC/ST/PwBD (40) out of 100.
Application Fee
- Standard Fee: ₹25 (Payable via Credit/Debit Card, UPI, or Internet Banking).
- Exemptions: Female, SC, ST, and PwBD candidates are fully exempted from the fee.
- Refund Policy: Fees are strictly non-refundable under any circumstances.
Concessions & Relaxations
- Age Relaxations: Up to 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, and 10 years for PwBD candidates (maximum age cannot exceed 56).
- Ex-Servicemen & Govt Employees: Standard age relaxations apply per Government of India instructions (requires relevant certificates from employers or defense authorities).
- Scribe Facility: Available for PwBD candidates with blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected), or cerebral palsy. Other categories require a Chief Medical Officer’s certificate.
Strict Rules, Misconduct & Venue Guidelines
- Misconduct: Providing false information, suppressing facts, tampering with documents, or utilizing unfair means will lead to immediate rejection, criminal prosecution, and permanent debarment from UPSC and government employment.
- Banned Items: Mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, and any electronic communication tools are strictly prohibited inside examination and interview halls (even when switched off).
- Mandatory Authentication: All candidates must undergo mandatory face authentication and physical frisking at the examination/interview venue.
- Interview Requirements: If shortlisted, you must bring the printed online application and all original uploaded documents to the interview. Travel Allowances (TA) for outstation candidates will be reimbursed as per standard rules.
